Coffee shop by day, taproom by night. This place is the best of both worlds.

Introducing The Courtyard.

Located on War Lane, Harborne, The Courtyard is a wonderful cafe and taproom by the lovely folks behind Morridge.

Porridge and craft beer might be some of the strangest bed fellows we’ve heard of, but somehow this place works. Most likely, because you don’t enjoy them both at the same time (now that would be strange). By day, The Courtyard is a haven of cosy, comforting, heartwarming joy – great coffee coupled with delicious porridge, granola and other oaty goodies.

The porridge here would knock Goldilocks’ socks off. It’s more than ‘just right’, it’s utterly delicious, and if you’ve ever been to the delightful Morridge in Great Western Arcade (and if you haven’t, then why the heck not?) you will know precisely what we mean. Their signature porridge comes ‘pimped’ with various seasonal toppings and they’re all so delicious that it’s virtually impossible to pick a favourite.

The menu changes regularly to reflect the seasons and the best ingredients available at the time, but you can expect lots of the popular flavours you know and love from Morridge, seasonal specials (Mince Pie Porridge we’re looking at you) and more. Flavours might include plum, apple and ginger, or pear and chocolate. Of course, there will always be their classic porridge available (with honey, cinnamon and sultanas) and all of their porridge bowls are made using their signature porridge base (gluten free jumbo oats and oat milk from Glebe Farm with cinnamon and a touch of sea salt).

As well as the delicious porridge you can also enjoy their lovely home-baked granola with a choice of toppings and soon they’ll be offering their house pancakes as an option too – so definitely look out for those. Not to mention their delicious speciality coffees. From lattes to flat whites and everything in between, the coffees here are crafted with care for the perfect cup every time.

In the evenings (the bar is open from midday), the place transforms into a taproom style venue with lots of craft beers (including local faves Attic Brew Co, Glasshouse and Birmingham Brewing Company), natural wines by Wine Freedom, spirits, soft drinks and classic bar snacks (crisps, peanuts and pork scratchings). A great place to grab a couple of drinks with your pals in an evening, the big, airy space gives those industrial vibes of a taproom and they’re working on bringing some delicious evening food to the menu soon so keep your eyes peeled for that, it’s sure to be ace.

Situated inside a beautiful brick building, as you step through the big, wooden barn doors into the high ceilinged, open space you enter a welcoming space. The venue is low-key and casual with the industrial highlights shining through (steel girders, brick walls, and the like) but with cosy ‘Morridge’ touches throughout such as potted plants and some comfy armchairs in their iconic vintage, retro colour palette. There’s plenty of seating throughout with lots of tables and benches as well as sofas and armchairs. In even better news, this wonderful place is doggy friendly too. They even have a jar of treats for your four-legged friends on the bar so you can reward the goodest boys and girls with a tasty treato.

If you’re looking for a new place to hang out in Harborne then The Courtyard is the place to go.
