Think you know bagels? Think again.
This independent is on a mission to change the way you think about bagels.
Introducing Folklore.
Located on Platform 2 of Sutton Coldfield Train Station, Folklore is the coffee shop serving up Montreal style bagels to hungry travellers.
Despite being located within a train station (very convenient if you’re peckish whilst waiting for your train) you don’t need to have a ticket to ride to visit this glorious little indie coffee shop, and we highly recommend you do (visit that is). The name of the game at Folklore is delicious speciality coffee and homemade Montreal style bagels.
What is a Montreal style bagel you ask? Well, let us divulge… it’s a doughy, chewy extremely delicious bagel and the good folks over at Folklore hand roll, boil and bake them fresh every single morning. So if you think you’ve had a proper bagel, think again and head over to Folklore to try some of the freshest and tastiest bagels you’ll find this side of the Atlantic.
These delicious, fresh bagels are stuffed with all manner of mouth-watering fillings with both savoury and sweet options available and meaty and veggie choices too. The menu changes weekly and they often have seasonal specials (hello Rum and Raisin bagel bites – we see you) so make sure you pop by regularly for something different every time. Examples of flavours might include Montreal style smoked brisket with rye whiskey mustard and dill pickle, whipped ricotta with maple candied walnuts, pistachio crumb and garlic fermented maple syrup, or pickled radish and cucumber with vegan cream cheese.
Friday is dedicated as ‘sweet bagel day’ where nothing is off limits, so if you want to try out the latest flavour combo that the team have dreamed up, swing by on your next available Friday to see what’s in store. As well as the filled bagels, there are other baked goods options available too including the likes of handmade brownies, flapjacks and more. They also offer ‘bagel bites’ for a tasty snack on the go – little chunks of bagels, usually served with some sort of dip or sauce. A top tier train snack if you ask us.
Whilst the bagels are a big star of the show here, it isn’t just about the bagels. Just as much care and consideration has gone into their speciality coffee offering too, all of which are served in either beautiful hand-thrown ceramics (also available to purchase in store) or their cute fox-branded takeaway cups for when you’re rushing off to catch your train. The team have hand-picked some delicious beans to make their coffees with, so you know you’ll enjoy the perfect cup every time. So whether you’re grabbing a latte as you rush off for your train or you sit in and cradle a perfect cappuccino, each and every cup will put a smile on your face.
The interior is as cute and cosy as you’d expect from a coffee shop named ‘Folklore’ (inspired by the Taylor Swift album for all the Swifties out there…) with their signature fox branding (also available on awesome merch by the way…), terrazzo style tables, and a comforting colour palette of forest green and warm brown tones providing a nice, calming place in which to enjoy a delicious brew or a bite to eat. There are lots of little woodland figurines, cushions and other elements to the décor adding to the theme too.
On top of all this, they’re also dog friendly! So bring your furry pals along to meet the team (they love to see them) and they might just end up on the Folklore wall of pups – filled with polaroids of all the goodest boys and girls who’ve visited!
If you’re passing through Sutton Coldfield station or you fancy getting your hands on one of those aforementioned bagels then a trip to Folklore is an absolute must.
