A combination of traditional and modern is one that we absolutely love.
Introducing Bhancha.
Located on Frederick Street in the Jewellery Quarter, Bhancha is a Nepalese and Indian restaurant bring bold flavours to the JQ.
Bhancha means “kitchen” in Nepal, where the kitchen embodies cherished traditions that bring families and communities together, an ethos that this brilliant restaurant reflects in everything they do. For many of us, the kitchen is a place filled with memories, laughter and conversations between family and friends; memories that linger long after the food has been enjoyed. This is what this restaurant is all about, bringing people together as they would in their kitchens at home to share good food and create lasting memories.
Bhancha’s founder wanted to share the richness of Nepalese cuisine and hospitality with the world, or at the very least with the fine folk of Birmingham. This restaurant is more than just a place to eat, it’s the manifestation of a lifelong passion and dedication to provide diners with an unforgettable experience.
With their mix of both Nepalese and Indian cuisines, the menu at Bhancha is exciting and diverse with lots of delicious dishes to try. Marrying the rustic charm of traditional Nepalese flavours with the elegance of fine dining sets them apart from their contemporaries, offering an exciting array of dishes that are just as beautiful as they are mouth-watering.
The menu features a selection of unique Nepalese delicacies, such as Masala Stargazer (pan seared monkfish, chilli, turmeric, ginger, mustard seeds and coconut milk), Nepalese Lamb and Chicken curries, Hiran Bourbon Tikka (diced venison cooked in a clay oven served with house salsa and mustard coconut sauce, flamed with Bourbon Whiskey) and Nepalese Momo (authentic Nepalese street food stuffed with minced chicken or vegetables and accompanied with spicy tomato chutney), prepared with the finest local ingredients.
Some other special menu items that are definitely worth ordering include the likes of Chef’s Special Chicken (made with a secret blend of chef’s signature spices), Nagarjun ko Hiran (pan grilled venison, spicy coconut, turmeric and ginger topped with blanched garlic spinach), Khasi ko Nali (braised Welsh lamb shank cooked with flavourful dry herbs, ginger, garlic and chef’s special spices), Jhol Maccha (cod cooked with fresh ginger, garlic, tomato, onion and homemade spices in an authentic Nepalese style), and Jackfruit Biryani.
Of course, there are some tempting desserts to try too, so be sure to leave a little bit of room for something sweet (a general rule for life in our books). Dessert options include Gulab Jamun (soft, golden-fried dumplings soaked in a fragrant rose syrup, with a hint of cardamom, served warm with ice cream), Ras Malai (delicate cheese patties soaked in creamy, saffron-infused milk, garnished with crushed pistachios and a touch of rose essence), and Jalebi (crispy, golden spirals soaked in saffron-infused syrup, served warm with ice cream). If you can’t decide on just one dessert, there’s even an option to choose the Bhancha Assorted Platter which features 4 of their Nepalese and Indian desserts, perfect for sharing between two.
The drinks menu is just as exciting as the food menu with everything from wine to cocktails and soft drinks available. If you fancy a delicious cocktail you can choose to have a classic (think Mojito, Cosmopolitan, Negroni, Espresso Martini, Mai Tai, Kir Royal and lots more) or opt for one of their speciality cocktails such as Khukuri Punch (Khukuri rum shaken with orange and pineapple juice) or Raksi (Kodo ko Raski elderflower liqueur lavender syrup finished with fizz). If you don’t fancy something alcoholic they serve refreshing mocktails too including Melon and Coconut Colada, Strawberry Mojito and Spicy Grapefruit Ginger Fizz.
For the wine fans they have a great selection of reds, whites, roses and sparkling wines to choose from with something for everyone whether you’re a connoisseur or a casual fan. They also serve a selection of beers both on draught and by the bottle, alongside selection of premium spirits and classic soft drinks.
The interior at the restaurant is a mix of modern with some traditional twists thrown in. The whitewashed walls give the space a bright and airy feel, whilst the leather chairs, marble table tops and pops of neon add an elevated touch to the otherwise paired back décor. The mini foliage walls add a nice depth to the space too. This is a great place to sample some tasty food and delicious drinks and try something different.
So if you’re looking for a unique dining experience unlike any other you’ve had in Birmingham, make sure to visit Bhancha.
