Coffee is a serious business in Brum.

When you need that caffeine hit, any old cup just won’t do. You have to go in search of the best.

Introducing Nexus Cafe.

Located on Meriden Street, Digbeth, Nexus Cafe is the proudly independent WOC-owned speciality coffee shop where they’ve hunted down the best beans so you don’t have to.

If you’re anything like us, you live and breathe coffee. You wake up thinking about that first glorious sip and go to bed dreaming of the next morning’s brew. That’s why, when it comes to coffee, customers are increasingly discerning. On the hunt for that all important caffeinated beverage to help the day go a little bit smoother, you want to make sure you’re enjoying the best brew in town. Luckily for us, we’re spoilt for choice here in Brum for excellent cuppas, and we’ve just added a brand new coffee shop to our hit list, and you need to too.

Nexus Cafe opened their doors down in Digbeth at the end of 2024 with one goal in mind: to bring excellent quality coffee to the tired folks of Brum’s creative district. The team over at Nexus Cafe are passionate about making sure they provide the best quality brews for their customers and put in the painstaking work of tracking down the best beans they could find to ensure that each and every cup they serve is the absolute tippity top it can be. After sampling a good range, they settled on a cracking blend by local roasters New Era, which they believe makes the most delicious coffees around (and well, it’d be rude not to go and test that theory for yourselves, right?).

Naturally, you’ll find all of your favourite caffeinated drinks on the menu here from flat whites and lattes, to espressos, long blacks and more. They have a standard menu that stays the same but they also like to mix things up a little with seasonal specials too, so keep your eyes peeled for exciting flavours and one-off drinks throughout the year. A choice of milks is available too and most of the drinks can be served either hot or iced, however you prefer. If you’re not big on coffee then of course there are plenty of other drinks to choose from too, including speciality teas, hot chocolates, chai latte and more.

If you’re feeling peckish, you can grab a bite to eat at this great little cafe too. They have a changing menu of baked goods which is always filled with delicious sweet treats like mouth-watering chocolate brownies, loaf cakes, cookies, creamy Basque cheesecake, and more. If you’re in the mood for something savoury, you can grab one of their filled bagels (think salt beef, cuban meat style, salmon and avocado, raclette and caramelised onion) or toasties (pulled bbq smoked beef, tuna melt, and vegan falafel hummus). All sound delicious, so take your pick and enjoy a tasty lunch in this cute and cosy cafe.

The interior features some cute little tile-topped bistro style tables as well as some longer wooden tables and a mismatch of chairs for added quirkiness. One wall is fully adorned with plants and mirrors, adding a touch of personality to the cosy and welcoming space. As well as being a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a little break in your day, the cafe is also community focussed with a range of events planned for their customers (everything from coffee tastings to art exhibitions and monthly live music).

If you’re looking for your next coffee stop then make sure to go and check out Nexus Cafe for a delicious cup and a moment of peace.
