We love it when independents collab, it’s just one of the many amazing things that makes Birmingham such an exciting city.
So when we heard that two of Brum’s finest and beloved institutions were joining forces to bring some of the best foodie eats in the city to the wonderful ‘burb of Kings Heath, we did a little dance with joy.
Introducing Hare & Hounds.
Located on the corner of High Street and York Road (Kings Heath), Hare & Hounds is one of Birmingham’s (and indeed the UK’s) finest independent music venues. Housed in a stunning Grade II listed building, with beautiful and unique Art Nouveau tiles that line the entry hall and staircase, Hare & Hounds is not just a music venue but a true institution of Birmingham – one where visiting is a rite of passage for all those living/working in, and indeed visiting, Brum.
Brum-famous for their fantastic programme of live music and arts, taking place every day across the year, just like the city of Birmingham itself, Hare & Hounds has a glorious musical heritage – playing host to the first ever UB40 gig in 1979, alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Lizzo, Chrissie Hynde and many more in recent years. With two fantastic live music rooms, Hare & Hounds has firmly cemented itself as one of the most influential and important indie music venues in the UK, showcasing live music and club nights spanning an array of genres: from jazz, indie, funk and reggae, to hip hop, soul, house, techno, drum & bass and beyond.
One of the things that some may have found missing from Hare & Hounds over the years is a food offering. They’ve dabbled with pop-ups over the years, which have been very enjoyable – but now they’ve teamed up with one of Brum’s favourite foodie hangouts, The Plough, to bring us a mouth-watering menu of pub grub classics. Indeed, The Plough is well-known as one of the best gastropubs in the UK, and their menu reads like a Greatest Hits album – now, they’re bringing that glorious menu to the beautiful ‘burb of Kings Heath and you can sink your teeth into their tasty burgers, wings, Cuban sandwiches (always a hit!), salads, loaded fries, ice cream (from Odi & Moo) and more. Head to the Hare for a pre-gig feed with your mates, and be sure to wash down your chosen dishes with their lovely selection of craft beers from local breweries, natural wines, cocktails and more.
Whilst primary a live music venue and a pub for locals and visitors to Brum alike, Hare & Hounds is also well-known for putting on intimate comedy nights and ‘conversations with friends’ (think intimate Q&As with the likes of Joe Lycett, among others). These shows are so important for Birmingham, and the local Kings Heath community. Indeed, whatever your music preferences may be, all must recognise that Hare & Hounds plays a vital part in nurturing the city’s vibrant music and creative community – and for this, we salute them.
Between awesome, intimate live music sets, comedy nights, conversations with friends, and now an epic menu of mouth-watering pub grub classics from The Plough – there are so many reasons for you to head to Hare & Hounds. We suggest you get right to it.
