With summer fast approaching and the soft glow of the spring sun beginning to burn through the haze of murky clouds, the time is almost upon us to undertake the most sacred of tasks – finding the perfect beer garden in which to drink beer with your friends and while away the sunny summer afternoons to come! Indeed, there is something magical and indescribable about a beer garden in summer and locating the perfect match for you can be somewhat of an arduous task. However, word had reached us of a pub situated in the heart of Birmingham, one which seeks to claim the crown for best beer garden – Welcome to The Old Crown.

Located on High Street (right next door to The Custard Factory), The Old Crown is a beautiful and fantastically diverse pub dedicated to offering patrons everything from coffee and cakes with which to break their fast to delicious cask ales to enjoy in the evening under the canopy of their infamous beer garden.

One of the most defining and novel attributes of The Old Crown (apart from it being the oldest pub in Birmingham) is its coffee shop, situated within the pub itself, dubbed ‘The Old Crown Coffee Club’. Indeed, nothing brightens up the morning like a heart-warming cup of coffee and a mouth-watering full English to keep it company – and every morning sees The Old Crown fill up with loyal regulars and new-comers alike looking to while away the morning over a nice hot cup of the good stuff.

Being situated within a pub, The Old Crown Coffee Club definitely provides a unique space in which to enjoy your coffee. Hardwood flooring, brick walls, wooden tables and hardwood beams span the ceiling to give The Old Crown almost a country pub vibe, something which creates a truly novel and intriguing atmosphere for a coffee shop (there’s even a wonderful picture of The Old Crown that has been painted in coffee!). So whether you’ve succumbed to the smell of home-made cakes and pastries or you’re craving a light lunch and a BLT sounds like just the thing to set your taste buds abuzz, The Old Crown is all about fulfilling your wildest breakfast dreams and providing a relaxing environment in which to enjoy the most important meal of the day.

However, the Coffee Club is merely the tip of the iceberg that is The Old Crown. Once through the door to the rear of the coffee shop, the rest of the pub awaits – as does the beer garden.

Upon evening’s approach, The Old Crown transforms from a relaxed coffee shop into a bustling and vibrant pub. Indeed, The Old Crown is the perfect place to enjoy a nice pint of cask ale with your friends after a hard day at work or to celebrate the weekend and socialise with like-minded individuals from in and around The Custard Factory. Furthermore, The Old Crown’s fantastic and incredibly popular beer garden allows patrons to spend the afternoon sampling the selection of wonderful pub lunches and the broad range of alcohol The Old Crown has to offer whilst enjoying the fresh outdoors and soaking up some of that ever essential Vitamin D!
