Magic City Tote Bag

Product Description

Magic City Tote Bag by Grand Union and BAZ (Birmingham Art Zine)

This ‘Birmingham. The Magic City’ tote bag is inspired by a huge Magic City sign erected in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1926. Birmingham, Alabama, was founded in 1871 and named in a direct reference to the industrial might of Birmingham, UK. It became known as the ‘Magic City’ because of the rapid growth of its iron and steel industry.

The original Magic City sign was dismantled in the 1950’s but BAZ hope to reclaim its original aspirations and unite all of the 31 worldwide ‘Birminghams’ in a celebration of their joint twenty-first century ‘Magic-ness’.

BAZ are an art-world think-tank comprising artists Matt Westbrook and Chris Poolman. Based in Birmingham, they are studio holders at Grand Union. Working with a combination of events, performance and writing, BAZ use humour to critique regional art scenes.

This tote bag is limited edition and is produced exclusively for Grand Union – and the ideal gift for all true Brummies.
